After years of waiting, it’s finally time to say goodbye to K-mart. Demolition started today. I’d hoped for something more exciting than a grocery store, but Publix is better than an empty building in the heart of Boone.

The High Country is filled with unique places and they all seem to have an interesting story to tell. Crumpler is a small community in Ashe County on the banks of the New River. The Healing Springs were found over 100 years ago in 1884 and was subsequently the site of the Healing Springs Hotel. Today, a restoration is underway by the owners of The Cabins at Healing Springs.

Due to our low population density, homes in Ashe, Avery, and Watauga qualify for USDA loans where you don’t need a down payment.
